The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking (NCCHT), in cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the International Organization of Migration (IOM), has launched a “National Referral Mechanism,” that outlines best practices and pathways for handling cases of trafficking in persons, specifying the coordination of roles and responsibilities of the mandated authorities in the Kingdom. The Mechanism is a collaborative framework that helps government officials to coordinate their efforts to better prevent trafficking in persons and protect victims or potential victims of human trafficking in the Kingdom and coordinates the investigation and prosecution of suspected perpetrators.

The launch of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking (NCCHT) website is an important step in providing victims of human trafficking with access to resources and a direct line to authorities. The anonymous digital reporting service, embedded in the NCCHT website, is designed for persons with information on possible human-trafficking violations in the Kingdom. The online referral service will be expanded to include a 24/7 hotline and mobile application, both of which are currently under development.
