HRC President: KSA is working with all capabilities to combat human trafficking crimes

Riyadh, January 26, 2020, SPA -- President of Human Rights Commission (HRC) Dr. Awwad bin Saleh Al-Awwad has affirmed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is working to protect and promote human rights through a system of laws, legislations and measures that have brought about fundamental changes and qualitative reforms. He stressed the Commission's work with all its capabilities to combat trafficking in persons, which is one of the most heinous crimes that violate the rights of human beings, through its regulations, international agreements and protocols that it joined, and memorandums of cooperation signed with the relevant international organizations and bodies. These efforts contributed to building a systematic and institutional framework that ensures the protection of all persons from crimes of trafficking in persons without discrimination, and promotes the prosecution and conviction of the perpetrators, the issuance of strict sentences against them, and the provision of assistance to victims.

Dr. Al-Awwad said, after signing a memorandum of understanding in Riyadh today with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, that the memorandum comes within the framework of joint cooperation between the Commission and the United Nations, as it will enhance cooperation in matters related to combating and preventing trafficking in persons.
